TAGUIG CITY -- Various tests are conducted to determine the overall health of more than 600 Empire East employees during the company's annual physical exam (APE).

All regular employees are required to undergo basic tests like chest x-ray, fecalysis, urinalysis, dental screening, blood extraction, and eye check-up. Additional tests are also required for those who are 35 years old and above, like ECG and pap smear for women.

According to the HR representative, Shannen Tolentino, the company has been conducting the APE since it started its operations.

"This activity ensures the wellness of our employees. By conducting the APE, our employees get to see and understand the state of their health and its implications, and it is also the company's way of ensuring that the employees are well taken care of," she explains.

The COVID-19 outbreak has recently made the news on various media platforms in the country. According to the World Health Organization, the cases of the said virus have already surpassed 100,000 worldwide. Thus, safety precautions and guidelines flood online platforms to disseminate helpful information. People are expected to monitor their surroundings and stay mindful of alarming signs.

Amid the virus scare, Empire East encourages its employees to remain calm by assuring that their health is at the topmost priority, hence the annual physical exam, which serves a more evident purpose for the employees this year. By going through tests, they were able to monitor and keep track of their overall wellness, which is direly needed to put them at ease at such times.

"Though considered tedious, I think this year's APE came in handy, especially during this time when something as serious as virus infection is being talked about. This activity plays a significant role in the assessment of the employees' overall well-being," says Nicole Andres from the Recruitment and Selection Group.

This year's APE is an ideal proactive measure that has inspired each employee to continue checking on their health and offer a sense of relief despite the current virus hysteria.
