It is fun to host guests in your condo. But apart from the fun, being a good condo host is also about making their visit extra special.

As the saying goes, “mi casa es su casa,” which means “my house is your house.” It is always great to have guests come over—whether for a short visit, an overnight stay, or for a few days, you want to make sure that they feel comfortable in your home.

If you enjoy having guests over but you have limited space in your condo, don’t fret. It’s all about making them feel welcome in your home. It doesn’t even have to be expensive or time-consuming, you just have to take care of the small things which will let your guests know that you care about them.

Here are tips on how you can be a good condo host.

Keep your place clean

First and foremost, you’d want to keep your condo clean, organized and free of clutter. Pay attention to common areas such as the sofa, chairs, tables, and most especially the bathroom. The thing with bathrooms is that they make look clean, but they also need to feel and smell clean.

Do some vacuuming, fluff the pillows and replace old rugs and covers with fresh ones. If your time permits, make sure to clean areas in your home that you usually ignore just because they do not bother you. This can be the shelves, tv rack, and appliances.

Make sure to get rid of any odor. You can use diffusers, oil stick fragrance, fresh flowers, or your handy-dandy air freshener bottle to help keep the air in your home fresh and clean.

If you have pets, do let your guests know ahead of time, especially if it’s going to be their first time visiting you.

Also, if you are planning to serve several meals, make sure to ask for any dietary restrictions such as meat, dairy, gluten, or any food allergies and be sure to take all these into serious consideration. It’s also good to have extra allergy medication just in case.

Welcome them

Upon your guests’ arrival, make it a point to ask them whether they want to eat or if they want to wash up first. In doing so, you take care of their immediate needs and makes them feel at home right away. Then, allow them to get settled and rejoin you after eating or washing up.

Once your guests are settled, sit down. Offer them a drink and initiate a conversation. Ask them about how they are doing, and if it’s still early, ask them what they want to do.

Make room for your guests

If your guests are staying with you, as long as you are willing to, you can offer your own bed for a night. While a few may graciously accept, others will refuse, but one thing’s for sure: they will all appreciate your offer. Otherwise, make sure to have extra pillows, linens, and a foldable or blow-up mattress if you don’t have a guest room or a sofa bed.

You can always have guests to come and stay with you even if you don’t have a guest room. If you give them an alternative way where they can sleep comfortably, then you have nothing to worry about.

Have an area where your guests can leave and unpack their stuff. This doesn’t have to be an entire closet or cabinet. It’s important to have a simple stool or place where they can leave their bags for easy access. It’s also good to have extra towels, washcloths, and toiletries ready should your guests not have any with them.

Share your wi-fi password

Refusing to share your wi-fi password when guests visit your home can be very inhospitable. The internet has become a necessity for most of us so sharing your wi-fi password at home is also caring. However, if you are cautious about sharing the password, you can always learn how to share your wi-fi without telling them your password.

Make food and water easily accessible

Place a pitcher or bottle of water, glasses, and snacks in an accessible area. Or, you can always tell them where the fridge and pantry are if you’re comfortable with that. Sometimes, guests can be shy and would not want to bother you to ask for anything, especially if they see you preoccupied with something. By doing so, your guests will also feel more welcomed and at home.

Relax and have fun

Lastly, relax, and do not forget to have some fun. Stop worrying. Ask your guests what they need. After all the preparations and entertaining that you’ve done for your guests, it’s important to enjoy, relax, and have a great time with them. Enjoy the good company, the place, and food you put so much work into.
