Infanta, Quezon | April 20, 2022 – Empire East visits New Little Baguio Elementary School of Infanta, Quezon, to promote clean water and proper hygiene to its about 70 pupils through a child-friendly seminar about preventing UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) within the community.

In addition, employees and volunteers of Empire East donated two new toilets for the pupils, giving them more access to clean water and safer hygiene practices.

"It's essential that children are educated about proper hygiene as they will carry these habits growing up," expressed Dr. Marguerita May Palparan-Pena, who discussed starting healthy sanitation habits. "It's not [about] just giving back or giving them something, but also trying to start a change for better health."

During the event, the pupils of New Little Baguio Elementary School shared a hearty lunch and received sanitation kits containing alcohol, tissues, and other toiletries for the children's daily use.

"Nagpapasalamat po kami at naturuan kami ng kung paano maging malinis sa sarili. Masaya kami at nakakatuwa yung paraan ng pagtuturo sa amin," said Solenn Marquez, a Grade 6 student beneficiary.

Empire East believes in the potential of every child and strives to develop communities that empower their education and well-being. Through organizing initiatives such as TOYLET, the company aims to aid them in their studies and promote their growth into becoming pillars of their community.

Path to Cleanliness

Urinary tract infection is among the most common issues in Infanta, Quezon, and its neighboring towns. It is believed to be due to a lack of water sources and proper hygiene. In addition, limited access to clean restrooms is also a contributing factor.

One hundred households have reported at least one UTI case in the past year alone. Through the TOYLET initiative, Empire East aims to lessen the risk of UTI through a series of informative seminars, the construction of clean toilets, and medical missions.

"Malaking tulong po ang programa ninyo para sa paaralan, lalo na sa mga bata, kasi natutunan nila maging malinis sa sarili,” said Angelica Estrerra, a teacher at New Little Baguio Elementary School. “Tapos ‘yung bagong CR, makakatulong din para hindi na sila hati-hati sa paggamit at maiiwasan na din ‘yung mga sakit."

Continued Legacy

This project is not the first time Empire East has visited the community. In 2018, the company donated a school library filled with books and desktop computers to aid the children's learning. The following year, Empire East continued its thread of good deeds for the community by gifting the children with individual school supplies for the incoming school year. And in 2020, the company launched a pocket CSR titled "The Gift of SMILE," as volunteers gave them goodie bags filled with toys and food and special piggy banks containing a year's worth of savings from the employees.

"We have watched New Little Baguio Elementary School progress since 2018, we are very proud of our work here, and surely, we will continue to support this institution in giving quality education to the children," says Chad, a long-time volunteer from Empire East.

Empire East Cares

Empire East launched its official Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, Empire East Cares, on its 25th anniversary, 15 July 2019. The company launched over 30 pocket CSR projects in and beyond Metro Manila. Its beneficiaries were students, the elderly, far-flung communities, and the environment.
